Loving Every Mintue of It

And the Award Goes To......

Animated Gifs and Fair Use

I have had a lot of fun the last couple of weeks. We have snipped, and cut, and pasted, and glued, and posted, and searched for our little banter war on the World of Warcraft forums.

This lead me to thinking about all the copyright discussions that we have been in full furor about lately. I have a really hard time imagining a world in which things like this are not considered fair use.

We must pay attention to what Congress tries to pass. Watch for the little bits of the now failed SOPA they try to tag on the end of spending bills. Let your congressman know, we will not bow to a legacy industry that refuses to evolve. We will support the artists/actors/bands/content creators that work with their fans, and not against them.

We all understand branding, and protecting the brand. We understand that counterfeit goods are bad news. We understand the need to make money. The legacy industries need to understand the difference between profiting off of your work, someone else trying to profit off your work, and fair use.

Too many times, people forget there is a future. There is a future in which we will have great, great, grandchildren that will be looking back through all of our things. It won't be boxes of letters and postcards like it was back in the day. It will be memes, animated gifs, forum posts, and blogs that will be the insight to "how things were back then".

Maybe some of them will look and say "What movie was THAT from". I know I felt that way the first time I heard "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Matchbox 20. A whole new generation of people will be exposed to content they may never have even heard of  because it was locked in some gatekeeper's storage closet.

We must all continue to fight for Fair Use.

How CD Crew Celebrates EotS Victory...

Banned......

I left the screen shots at work, but basically, Joefro Horde-side started a thread about Promade wrecking Stormwind.

I merely stated that they keep coming when people are asleep and who cares, it's an RP server.

The discussion escalated a tad, and names were tossed around, cuss words may or may not have been censored by the autofilter, animated gifs were created, and fun was had by all.

I'm not exactly sure who did the reporting, but I know it wasn't by KoT members that were involved with the discussion, or Promade.

It also kinda spilled over into Facebook after the bans went out, in which I had to close my Facebook account

I left the screen shots of the thread that held this discussion at work. I'll grab em later.

EoTS This Weekend!!!!!

Forum Fun Times!

Wrecka Stow

I stopped at my aunt's house after flying back from Milwaukee to visit, as it has been a while since I have visited. She has been recovering from the latest battle with breast cancer, and doing quite well, in my opinion.

Grandad passed away last fall, and my aunt has been left with a bunch of....stuff. One of the projects she needed help with that none of the family seemed interested in helping her with was getting an inventory on the  old records that were in a couple of crates around the house.

Some of these were really amazing, the detail and art that went into them:

At first the task seemed daunting, however, I knew that I wanted to spend some time chatting, and we might as well sort and chat at the same time. We made up a system of where I would pull the record out, photo the front and back cover (and any inside covers), write down the artist and album name, and hand it to her. She would then pull the record out, look at the quality of the record, and I would write that down.

We got so efficient with this system that we would go through the motions, and then forget to write down the quality of the record. It was fun.

I have been so upset with the copyright fuss, and mad at the RIAA for what, in my opinion, was them over reaching on telling US how to enjoy music. It wasn't until I started reading the backs of some of these records that I hit the 'aha!' moment. The RIAA has been telling us for YEARS how to enjoy our media.

I also had to laugh. I guess at some point, the RIAA was non-profit. Are they still?

I also wonder what happened to the whole 'Public Performance Clearance - ASCAP'. Can't we apply that online too?

Sparks

I know there is a lot of controversy about Coldplay. I personally didn't listen to them when they were popular, so to me, listening to them now is kinda a treat. It's like a whole new band.

Cal first introduced me to them via this snip-it from "Wedding Crashers", which, was also a movie I had not seen. It kinda fit how we felt at the time.

The one thing about World of Warcraft, people spend a lot of time together in game, which leads to some feelings and bonds that are just as real as ones made 'in the flesh'.

Since the Internet is still relatively new, in terms of human interaction time lines; it is yet unknown what affect this new way of human connection has on the emotional health of society in general. I'll let ya know in a few months how my experience turns out.

Until then, I plan to fully engulf in the Twisting Nether of  that line between fantasy and reality.

Aside from the record breaking heat, it was a fantastic trip. I highly suggest that everyone go at least once in their life.

Summerfest!!!!! AFK!!!

That time of year again...time to AFK....I will be interested to see how many of my iPhone videos are flagged once I upload them.

I'll be glad when I get out of meme mode. I think I killed 3 hours today just looking at crap like this:

It's my new background.
